Myrtle Genevieve King, age 100, of Freeman, MO, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freeman Baptist Church Missionary Fund, P.O. Box 187, Freeman, MO 64746.
Myrtle was born May 24, 1909 in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Roy Sylvester and Jessie (Sturdevant) Whittington. She married Clarence C. King on December 28, 1927.
Myrtle had lived in Freeman before moving to Kansas City and then back to Freeman in 1963. She had lived in Lincoln, NE and St. Joseph, MO before moving to Kansas City. She was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church in Cleveland, MO. She was a homemaker.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren and her husband, Clarence on December 12, 1997. She is survived by one son, Merle King of Adrian, MO and two daughters, Marian Howard and Virginia Rogers, all of Freeman, MO; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
