Obituary

Monte Lynn Lawrence, 50, of Adrian, MO, joined the Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2010 in Adrian, MO. Masonic services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO immediately followed by funeral services. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Friends may call 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Athletic Booster Club, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Adrian, MO 64720.

Monte was born August 14, 1959 in Harrisonville, MO and is the youngest son of Clyde and Velma (Vaughn) Lawrence. He attended all 12 years of school at the Ballard School District and graduated in 1977. On December 27, 1980 he was united in marriage to Cheryl L. Six and to this union two children were born, Rebecca Lee (Becca) and John Robert (J. R.).

Monte was a member of the Adrian Optimist Club, Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association, Crescent Hill Masonic Lodge #368, Adrian Athletic Booster Club and the Adrian Christian Church. Monte took pride in helping organize Adrian's 4th of July parade each summer.

Monte took pleasure in working outside. His first work experience started on the family dairy outside of Ballard. He then worked for Barr Motor Company in Butler, MO. For several years he owned his own small engine shop in Adrian along with working at another area automotive dealership. Since 1994, Monte worked for the Bates County Road and Bridge Department and has also worked weekends at the Adrian City Water Treatment Plant, since 1999.

Monte truly enjoyed attending his children's sporting events and cheering on the Blackhawks. In addition, he loved to read western and spy novels and watch documentaries on television. Monte loved to make things with his hands and work with all types of tools. He would never hesitate to smoke some type of meat for any family function or holiday.

Monte is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl, his daughter, Rebecca and son, John, all of the home; his parents, Clyde and Velma Lawrence and in-laws, Harold and Thelma Six, all of Adrian, MO; his brother, Wendell Lawrence and his wife, Gayle, Adrian, MO; two sisters, Charlotte Patterson of Strafford, MO and Sue McGee of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Darla Six of Harrisonville, MO; brother-in-law, Cary Six and his wife, Lara of Adrian, MO and many other relatives and friends.
