Minnie Lavaun Parks, 94, of Harrisonville, Missouri died Friday, March 12, 2010 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 10:00am Monday, March 15, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville, MO. Burial in the Belton Cemetery, Belton, MO. The family will receive friends Sunday 3-5pm at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Continua Hospice, 7611 State Line, Suite 202, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Lavaun was born September 26, 1916 in Wei Township, Miami County, Kansas, a daughter of Troy William and Lillie May (Wilson) Hittle. She was raised in the Drexel, MO area and moved to Kansas City in 1934. She was united in marriage to Francis Marion Parks, October 3, 1935. They lived in Kansas City until moving to Louisburg, Kansas in 1960. She and Marion lived in Louisburg until his death on April 1, 1992, at which time she moved to Harrisonville. She let Jesus in her heart in 1972 at the Louisburg First Baptist Church. She moved her church membership to the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville when she moved. She loved sewing, making quilts for the family, and doing cross stitching.
Lavaun was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marion, two sisters and two grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Charles F. Parks and his wife, Bertie, Cedar City, Utah, and Darrell Parks and his wife, Linda, Harrisonville, MO; two daughters, Betty Pearson and husband Ronnie, Raymore, MO, and Beverly J. Parks and husband Harvey Cohen, San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
