Obituary

Milton Smith, Jr., 80, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 12 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 PM Wednesday, April 11 at the chapel. Contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.


Milton was born June 11, 1926 in Crowder, OK, the son of Milton and Minnie (Newberry) Smith, Sr. He lived in Oklahoma before going into the Army where he served during WWII. After returning from the service, Milton lived in Oklahoma and South Dakota before moving to Harrisonville in 1959. He was an assemblyman for General Motors at the Leeds Plant in Kansas City, MO for 27 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the UAW and the Harrisonville VFW Post 4409. Milton enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Morrison in 1983.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gilbert, Buster and Andrew and his first wife, Ramona May Smith on August 9, 1976. He is survived by his wife, Gertie, of the home; one son, John Smith, Harrisonville, MO; two daughters, Betty Grant and her husband, Troy, Ft. Worth, TX and Bonnie Brooks, Liberty, MO; three brothers, Clifford Smith, Sheopa, KS, Leo Smith, McAllister, OK and J. E. Smith, Butler, MO; one sister, Bertha Hale, Owasso, OK; two grandchildren, Melissa Brooks and Tyler Grant and numerous nieces and nephews.
