Mildred Opal Staley, 98, Raytown, Missouri, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee's Summit. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 9:30-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City, 9237 Ward Parkway, Suite 300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Mildred was born February 28, 1915 in Adrian, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest and Katherine (Miller) McCraw. She was raised in Adrian. She married Eugene "Gene" R. Staley in 1937 in Harrisonville. She moved to Raytown in 1953 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Raytown. Mildred was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and canning. Her main focus in life was her children and her grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene on March 19, 1995, one son, Robert, one grandson, Randy, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by three sons, Richard L. Staley and his wife, Treasa, Kansas City, Missouri, Jim Staley and his wife, Donna, Raytown, Missouri and Jack Staley and his wife, Linda, Cave Creek, Arizona; one daughter, Carol Murphy and her husband, Jack, Lee's Summit, Missouri; one sister, Ernestine West and her husband, Frank, Lee's Summit, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
