Michael Todd Sherman passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the age of 69, at his home in Kansas City. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation on behalf of him to support Veteran organizations centered around serving our Veterans after they so valiantly served our country, such as local and national VFWs, National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, and the Wounded Warriors Project. Apart from monetary donations, please give someone special slurpy kisses in his memory as well. That would make him crack up... huh huh, she said crack.
Born on April 9, 1957, he used to say he was 29 every birthday until he turned 69 (which he though was hilarious). He was a goofball, a knucklehead, and someone who would give the shirt off their back if you needed it. He was also an Army Veteran. While he technically didn't serve in a war, the situations he described in Germany certainly sounded like he had. Though he had his struggles, as we all do, he did his best to keep his childlike charm throughout life.
He was extremely intelligent. After obtaining a degree in Physics, he went on to teach at the Undergraduate level before moving into computer programming. For years, he was a lead computer programmer for Randolph AFB; as well as, Fort Sam, both in San Antonio, Texas. He was a talented man who could play the heck out of a guitar and harmonica. He was an epic songwriter and storyteller, too.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Howard Sherman; brother-in-law, Tom Baldwin; and brother-in-law, Mac McClary; among other loved ones. He leaves behind his only child, Jessica Bunting (husband, Thomas Bunting); only grandchild, Damion Bailey; his mother, Jeannie Miller, who just celebrated her 90th birthday with him; his five siblings (youngest to oldest): Billy Sherman (Faith) and their children: Kyndra and Tucker; Tommy Sherman and his children: Kyle and Casey Foster; Connie Sherman and her children: Llyndsey Vogel, Dean and Billy Baldwin; Jim Sherman and his children: Levi, Matthew, Chris, and Luke Sherman; and Sandi McClary and her children: David and Jon Bowie; as well as, his sister-in-law, Rhonda Sherman. He leaves behind many people who loved him dearly as well and who valued his friendship tremendously.
