Michael John Reid, 20, Peculiar, Missouri, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Friends may call 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.Memorial contributions may to Wills Cemetery, Peculiar or the WILLIAM J. Michael was born October 28, 1991 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Reid (Cathleen A. Shine). A lifelong resident of the Peculiar area, he attended the Raymore-Peculiar schools throughout his educational career, graduating in 2010.
Michael had a very inquisitive mind and loved to research any subject that caught his fancy, such as the U.S. presidents, world leaders, local celebrities, family history and genealogy, and locating the graves of those he studied. He enjoyed going to concerts, playing his guitars and listening to all types of music. He had traveled to over 40 countries on family vacations with his parents and sister, seeing exotic locations on five continents, most recently Easter Island.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marjorie Chaffin Reid, and great aunt Dr. Aileen E. Shine. He is survived by his parents, John C. Reid and Cathleen A. Shine; his sister, Emily Anne Reid, of Washington, D.C; his paternal grandfather, Charles Wayne Reid, Peculiar; his maternal grandparents, Edward T. and Mary Catherine Shine, Jr., Kansas City; uncle, Charles Wayne Reid II; aunts, Maureen T. Shine, Mary M. Shine, Patricia Shine DeWalt, Bridget Shine Gallaway; uncle, Edmund T. Shine; cousins, Erin and Catherine DeWalt, Caroline Mendus, Victoria, Alex and Lorelei Gallaway.
