Michael Steven Magness, 67, Garden City, Missouri, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Christian School, or The Cass County Historical Society.

Michael Steven Magness, 67, Garden City, Missouri, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri, with burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisonville Christian School or Cass County Historical Society.

Michael was born June 21, 1949 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, the son of Wayne Edward and Betty Helen (Males) Magness. He grew up in New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Red Bank Valley High School. After graduation, Michael was drafted into the U. S. Army and was Military Police at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, assigned as a guard at the Disciplinary Barracks.

Michael was united in marriage to Diane Winston on June 5, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to the Harrisonville area in 1976. Michael owned Magness Construction Co., Inc. and was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 101. Michael loved to hunt and enjoyed reading; but mostly he loved being with his family and taking care of them.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Diane, of the home; one son, Matthew Magness and wife, Kari, Lee's Summit, Missouri; four daughters, Michele Smalley and husband, Jess, and Melissa Magness, all of Harrisonville, Missouri, Maryann Tribble and husband, Jerry, Peculiar, Missouri, and Molly Magness, Raymore, Missouri; three brothers, Keith Magness and wife, Donna, Mars, Pennsylvania, Richard Magness and wife, Dolly, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and Timothy Magness and wife, Sally, Pleasureville, Kentucky, and 13 grandchildren.
