Maxine Rosa Ritter, 83 of Adrian, MO died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Adrian Manor in Adrian. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Maxine was born June 30, 1926 in Pleasanton, KS, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Voyles) Layland. On June 14, 1942, Maxine married Leonard L. Ritter of Merwin, MO. To this union was born a son, Larry and a daughter, Rose Ann.
After graduating from Drexel High School, Maxine attended the Kansas City Business College and the Dale Carnegie Course in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of the Adrian Christian Church plus the Superintendent of the children's department at the church. She belonged to the Adrian Rebekah Lodge No. 449, having gone through all the chairs, PTA President for two years and active in various community projects.
Maxine loved people and always had a smile on her face, being known as the "smile behind the counter" at the Haas Store in Adrian, MO where she clerked for seven years. Later she worked three years at the Len's Plant in Butler, MO and as a teller at the First National Bank of Camdenton, MO until she retired, due to her health.
After her husband died, Maxine lived in South Kansas City, MO where she attended the Faith Tabernacle Church of Martin City, MO. She returned to Adrian in May of 1984. Maxine did extensive traveling which she enjoyed before coming home for the last mile in route to her Heavenly Home.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard in November, 1962, one daughter, Rose Ann in July, 1955, two brothers, Joe and Raymond Layland and one sister, Clara Lorene Hancock. She is survived by one son, Larry Ritter and his wife, Linda of Adrian, MO; three sisters, Mary Ruth Ford and her husband, Jack of Holden, MO, Basil Sue Pannell of Bolivar, MO and Martha Anne Domann of Shell Knob, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, including one special friend, Bob Brisbin of Harrisonville, MO.
