IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maurice Harvey
Snare
June 12, 1936 – October 5, 2022
Maurice Snare passed from this life at 5:18 pm (eventide) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. We will certainly miss him but his work here is done. Memorial services were held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Fellowship Church-Archie Campus, previously First Baptist Church, 302 South Missouri Street, Archie, MO.
Maurice Harvey Snare was born June 12, 1936 in Creighton, MO, the youngest of four children to Joseph Claude and Mildred (Harvey) Snare. A country boy at heart, he rarely strayed far from home; the exception being a couple of trips to England to experience life in the English countryside. Maurice says his earliest memory is that of his mother waking him one morning to tell him that Germany had just invaded Poland. WW 2 had just begun and he was three.
Maurice was a 1954 graduate of Central High School in Kansas City, MO and graduated from William Jewell College in 1960 with degrees in both Hebrew and Latin; degrees he used to teach and preach the gospel for the church. He was quite active in the church throughout his life, including holding positions as Deacon Emeritus and Sunday School Director. Maurice was always a defender of the faith, a lover of books, and a friend of music, both as a tenor soloist and choir member. He also directed music as an interim choir director on multiple occasions. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Archie and was the choir director for many years. Being health-conscious he lifted weights and watched his diet his entire life as well.
Maurice married Marlynne Joy Simons on August 26, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. He had lived in Kansas City, MO before moving to Archie, MO in May, 1976. He moved to Belton in 2020. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor he always had a joke to tell and share his keen wit. Maurice carried the mail for 36 1/2 years before retiring in 1992. He painted houses in his spare time as well. After a brief retirement, he went back to work from 1995-2001 in the mail-room for House of Lloyds, a multi-national company in the gift industry. The founder, Harry Lloyd, created the village of Loch Lloyd in Cass County MO.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred (Harvey) Snare; brother, Joseph Snare; sister, Betty McCandless; and sons, Phillip and John Snare. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlynne Snare; brother, Leroy Snare and his wife, Mary Lou; sister-in-law, Shirley Snare; son, Paul Snare; daughter in spirit, Robin Holloway; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a host of friends from Kansas City, Garden City, Harrisonville, and Archie, Missouri areas.
We will miss his presence, his wonderful sense of humor and his leadership. Our family would like to express our thanks to everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. A special thanks to those who visited, whether it was in the hospital, care facility or at home.
There is an African proverb that says when an old man dies a library burns to the ground. Nothing could be more true!
