Maurice "Marty" Handy, 64, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 at his home. Graveside services were held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO.

Marty was born January 28, 1956 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Richard M. and Priscilla (Allen) Handy.  Marty and his brother, Rick, were raised in Harrisonville by his maternal grandfather, Alvard O. Allen and his step grandmother, Ruth A. Allen, after the death of his mother in 1964. He was a 1974 graduate of Harrisonville High School, and the valedictorian of his class. Marty attended the University of Missouri, in Columbia, MO and graduated in 1978 with a degree in journalism. While at MU, he was a member of the cheer squad.

After graduation, Marty moved to New York City, where he was a writer for Women's Wear Daily. He returned to Harrisonville and was working as a customer representative for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, MO.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rick, and three uncles, Dallas Allen, Edwin Allen, and Roland Allen.  He is survived by two uncles, Edward Allen and Arthur Allen; three aunts, Burma Allen, Dorothy Shackelford, and Ester Allen; many cousins, other relatives and many friends.
