Obituary

Matthew Spencer Smith, 43, St. Peter's, Missouri, formerly of Plattsburg, Missouri died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in Cozumel, Mexico. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in St. Peter's Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund that has been established for the Smith children. Donations may be made to Janna Smith for this fund.

Matt was born December 29, 1972 in Kirkwood, Missouri, the son of Ronald K. and Barbara J. (Hunt) Smith. He grew up in Plattsburg, Missouri and was a 1991 graduate of Plattsburg High School. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri on a football scholarship and was a 2006 graduate of the University of Phoenix. He married Janna Leigh Jones on July 27, 1996 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, Missouri and has three children, Gabriel, Caden and Madison.

Matt worked for Bunzl Distribution in St. Louis, Missouri as Senior Director of I. T. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in St. Peter's, Missouri and helped with Awana, Youth group, VBS, and was on numerous committees. He was a Cub Master of Pack 984 in O'Fallon, Missouri and was assistant coach of Gabriel's baseball team. Matt was an avid fisherman.

Matt had an infectious personality and put everyone at ease with his wonderful smile and loving hugs. He was loved by so many people and will be missed.

Matt is survived by his wife, Janna, and their children, Gabriel, Caden, and Madison, of the home; his parents, Ronald and Barbara Smith, Odessa, Missouri; one brother, Joshua A. Smith, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; Janna's extended family; his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
