Mary L. Zumwalt, 79, Cleveland, Missouri died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at her home in Cleveland. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial in West Union Cemetery, Cleveland, Missouri. Contributions to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Mary was born December 18, 1935 in Roscoe, Missouri, the daughter of Espie T. and Lillian Gertrude (Smith) Dawson. Mary was a lifelong Cass County, Missouri resident, and a 1953 graduate of Peculiar High School, Peculiar, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Vincent Veron Zumwalt on February 12, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Daugherty, Missouri. Later, she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church in Cleveland and in 1970 became a member of Cleveland Christian Church. She has been a member of the Precious Moments Collectors Club since 1986 and the Hallmark Collectors Club since 1987.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Thomas Benton Dawson, and a great-granddaughter, Mikayla Neil Allen. She is survived by her husband, Vincent Zumwalt of the home; a son, Vincent "Vince" Zumwalt ( Judy) of Cleveland, Missouri; a daughter, Phyllis Mathews (Gary) of Cleveland, Missouri; two brothers, Bill Dawson and Bernie Dawson, both of Harrisonville, Missouri; three sisters, Betty Hughes of Harrisonville, Missouri, Dolores Bassit of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Carol Jakubczak of Harrisonville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Christopher Mathews, Nathan Mathews, Joshua Mathews, Stephanie Scott, and Reva Zumwalt, and 13 great-grandchildren.
