Obituary

Mary Adele McVay, 93, Archie, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Archie with visitation from 1:00-2:00 at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Mary was born November 25, 1920 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Meredith D. and Ruby Lee (Saunders) Warriner. She married George Elton McVay on April 6, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia. They moved to a farm north of Harrisonville in 1946 and later to a farm south of Harrisonville. Mary had numerous jobs through the years which included working as a waitress for Halfway in Harrisonville and a nurse's aide at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

She always had a big garden and was an excellent cook. She always had lovely flowers in her home. She was always very active in her children's activities, helping with 4-H and Scouting. Mary had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville and later became an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Harrisonville, for 20 years. She was also a member of the WMU where she served as president during the 1960's and early 1970's. After she moved to Archie in 1976, she joined the First Baptist Church of Archie. Mary was active in Senior Citizens and was on the Council of Aging in Harrisonville for many years.


Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Elton, one brother, Meredith Warriner, Jr., two sisters, Nora Traylor and Margaret Robey and a grandson, Nathan Bledsoe. She is survived by one son, Geroge David McVay and wife, Gayle, Warrensburg, Missouri; four daughters, Marilyn Powell and husband, William, Bella Vista, Arkansas, Carolyn Bledsoe and her husband, Barry, Londonderry, Ohio, Sandra Peters and her husband, Fred, Sedalia, Missouri and Shirley McVay, Archie, Missouri; one brother, George Warriner and his wife, Norma, Richmond, Virginia; two sisters, Ruth Blunt and her husband, Bernard and Barbara Bell and her husband, Jack, all of Richmond, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Mary Maddux, John Powell, Trenton Bledsoe, Kyle Bledsoe, Fred Peters and Chad Peters and 9 great-grandchildren.
