Obituary

Mary M. Beall, 91, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, MO. Funeral Service were held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Interment at Lee's Summit Cemetery in Lee's Summit, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Disabled American Veterans.

Born on November 19, 1933, in Lee's Summit, MO, Mary was the seventh child of Otis LeRoy and Frances "Fanny" Lucille (Clark) Dyke. She fondly remembered her childhood during the Great Depression and often shared stories of her time at the one-room schoolhouse she attended in her hometown. A proud member of the Lee's Summit High School Class of 1951, Mary went on to build a life filled with love and adventure.

On July 3, 1954, Mary married the love of her life, Thomas Joseph Beall. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey, raising five children: Joseph, Barry, Marisha, Margaret, and Russell. Their life together took them to various places across the United States, as Joe served in the U.S. Navy, including residences in San Diego, CA; Fountain Valley, CA; New Orleans, LA; Tucson, AZ; Phoenix, AZ; Mesa, AZ; Surprise, AZ; and finally, back to her hometown of Lee's Summit, MO.

A true adventurer at heart, Mary and Joe took their grandchildren on unforgettable journeys across the United States in their RV, teaching them that the best memories were made on the open road-with rest stop lunch breaks that included turkey pastrami sandwiches on marble rye and arguments over the music on the radio. Evening dessert was also a nightly ritual, served promptly at 8pm, often featuring ice cream and wafer cookies or anything lemon flavored.

Mary had a mind made for puzzles-crosswords, jigsaws, word searches-you name it, she conquered it. She loved gameshows and often dreamed of winning big on Family Feud or Wheel of Fortune. She also loved games of all kinds, including Cribbage, Pinochle, Hand & Foot, Skipbo, Phase 10, Pegs & Jokers, 5 Crowns and countless others over the years. Mary's sharp intelligence was only matched by her playful sense of humor, which showed up best whilst playing games with her family.

A lifelong crafter, Mary poured her creativity into miniature masterpieces, making dollhouse furniture and Christmas ornaments with meticulous care and imagination. She was an avid baseball fan, with a particular fondness for the Atlanta Braves and preferred the National League to the American League. Mary also truly loved to read; mostly mysteries and anything by James Patterson or Mary Higgins Clark. And she told the absolute best version of The Three Billy Goats Gruff-a story her grandchildren would ask for again and again.

Mary's love for her grandchildren was immeasurable, but it was becoming a great-grandmother, "Gigi", that brought her the greatest joy. Her warm smile and affectionate nature will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Joseph Beall; her son, Barry Beall; and her siblings: Raymond (Florence) Dyke, James (Patty) Dyke, Harry (Dorothy) Dyke, Thomas (Barbara) Dyke, Sarah (Eldon) Wendel, Dorothy (Dick) Batman, Martha Ann Dyke, Joe (Judy) Dyke, Carol (George) Cleveland, and Florence (Tim) Jones. She is survived by her loving children: Joseph Beall; Marisha (Sam Sirhed) Beall of Hillsborough, CA; Margie Beall of Lee's Summit, MO; and Russell (Annie) Beall of Temecula, CA; her daughter-in-law, Cheri Beall; her grandchildren: Kristi (Gareth) Addis, Melissa (Joshua, Sr.) Ruth, Nicole Beall, Kevin (Macaria) Beall, and Lauren Beall; her great-grandchildren: Joshua (Maria Shay) Ruth, Jr., Talis Ruth, Nolan Ruth, and Beatrice Beall; her great-great-granddaughters, Oakley and Autumn Ruth; her brother, Otis (Francie) Dyke; 30 nieces and nephews, and many extended family members.
