Obituary

Mary Beth Allen, 84, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at her home in Harrisonville. Funeral services were held  on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.  Eastern Star Services were held Monday, October 17, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.  Memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind or Eastern Star Bayard Chapter #179, Harrisonville, MO.

Mary Beth was born October 9, 1938 to Woodrow and Mildred (Montgomery) Phillips in Montgomery, LA. She graduated from Aldine High School in Houston, TX with the Class of 1956. Mary Beth united in marriage to John D. Allen on September 2, 1960 at Mason Drive Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Due to John's service with US Army, she lived with him at Ft. Benjamin in Harrison, IN and the US Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD. While he was stationed overseas, she lived in Houston, TX; they then moved to Jonesboro, GA; Dallas, TX; and finally made their home in Harrisonville, MO. During her career, she was employed with the City of Harrisonville as the Secretary to the Mayor and City Administrator and Citizens National Bank, but spent the majority of her career as Lead Teller with Plaza Savings and Loan in Harrisonville, retiring in 1988 when it was Farm and Home Savings.

Mary Beth was known for being active in the community, serving many positions at her church, Faith Baptist, in Harrisonville. John and her were always active Southern Baptists. She had served as President of the Harrisonville American Field Service Adult Chapter, hosting several short-term foreign exchange students. She served as Worthy Matron of Bayard Chapter 179, Order of the Eastern Star #147 holding her 50-year membership, and as Mother Advisor of the Local Rainbow Assembly. She also was on the fundraising committee for the Cass County Information Center, volunteered as a leader in Cub Scouts and the Experimental Aircraft Association - Warbirds of America Chapter in Harrisonville. Mary Beth remained active in the political arena ad a Republican Committeewoman in Cass County and served as Local President from 1972-1973 and Director with BPW, remaining an active member.

Mary Beth is preceded in death by spouse, John Allen; her parents; brother, Larry Phillips; and sister, Becky. She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Scott) Wagner; her son, Scot (Paula) Allen; her 3 grandchildren: Alexis Allen, Miranda Wagner, and Carlaigh Wagner; her brother, Glenn Phillips; 3 nieces: Michelle, Aimee, and Amanda; and her nephew, Zachary.
