Obituary

Marvin C. Lacy, 90, Harrisonville, MO, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville.  Funeral services were held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Marvin was born October 24, 1927 in Lisle, MO, the youngest of 13 children born to Horace Calvin and Sarah Naomi (McSpadden) Lacy.  He attended Pleasant Hill schools.  Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for three years.  He then went to work for General Motors in Kansas City, MO.  He married Mary Kathryn Carlson on December 23, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, officiated by the late Rev. John R. Canning.  To this union, three children were born: Ronald Alan, Marvina Kay, and Kendall Lee.

Marvin worked for the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville as a custodian and in 1978 went to work as Chief of Maintenance for Harrisonville Cass-RIX Schools.  He lived in Harrisonville until moving to Adrian in 1978 when he became the funeral director for Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian.  He and Kathryn were very active in the Adrian First Baptist Church and other civic organizations.  Marvin was even elected mayor of Adrian in 1986.  After Kathryn died on March 22, 1990, Marvin returned to Harrisonville and continued working for Atkinson Funeral Home as the facilities engineer until retiring in 2009.

Marvin was a frequent visitor at Mickelson's Auction in Freeman.  He was a collector of antique clocks, radios, Aladdin and kerosene lamps and lanterns.  He was also an avid collector of model classic cars.  He loved playing his country music on his old time record players.

On April 28, 2001, Marvin married Mina Dell (Wirsig) Smith, a long-time friend of the family.  Marvin was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville.  He was a loyal member, serving as a deacon, and on various committees.  He loved flowers and plants and his front porch always displayed beautiful hanging baskets and big Kimberly Queen ferns.  He loved company and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He loved travelling in his GMC black pick-up.  He had worked hard from an early age.  He will be remembered as a loving, sweet man, who loved his family, and also Mina's family after their marriage.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathryn, and his 12 brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his wife, Mina, Raymore, MO; one daughter, Marvina Beckerdite (Ron), Neosho, MO, and their sons, Jason and Daniel; two sons, Ronald Lacy, Harrisonville, MO and Kendall Lacy (Melodee), Nixa, MO and daughter, Megan; stepdaughters, Linda Tappmeyer (Mark), Brownsberg, IN, Dell Ann Melvin (John), Arma, KS, Kay Jean Bontrager (Gerald), Mt. "Ole' Marv", we will always love you and will miss you, but we are happy you are with our heavenly Father -- finally at home.
