Martha Lee Walker, 88, of Harrisonville, Missouri died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday at the chapel. Martha was born January 6, 1921 in Freeman, Missouri, a daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Pearl Edna (Glasseck) Walker. Martha lived in Freeman before moving to Harrisonville in 1931. She lived in the same house for 76 years. She was a 1938 graduate of Harrisonville High School and attended business school in Kansas City. She worked as an office manager for Bowmans from 1941 to 1967 and then as a bookkeeper for LeNeves TV & Appliance and for KIEE Radio. All of these businesses were located on the Harrisonville Square. She was a lifelong member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, and served as the bookkeeper for 30 years. She was active in United Methodist Women and was formerly a member of the Harrisonville BPW. She was a volunteer Pink Lady at Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville.
She loved tending to her birdfeeder, her flower garden, and to several stray cats she adopted over the years. She loved spending time with family and friends and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Russell Walker, and a sister, Margaret Brownfield. She is survived by five nephews, Rusty Walker, David Brownfield, Gary Brownfield, Albert Moses and Butch Moses, two nieces, Joyce (Brownfield) Hitt, and Vicky (Moses) Winter, their spouses and family.
