Mark Todd Danforth, 66, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Brown Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO at Wayside Rest. Visitation was held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Mark was born on June 11, 1955 in Harrisonville, MO, the oldest son of Jimmie Frank and Mary Kay (Long) Danforth. He graduated with honors from Harrisonville High School in 1973. After graduation he enrolled in Kansas University where he studied drama, education and music. Mark was an accomplished pianist and began playing at an early age. He was the student of the late Inez Hunt and performed in many recitals. He had lived in Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS before moving back to Harrisonville in 2020.
Mark owned and operated a florist shop in Crown Center in Kansas City, MO. His second career was at Century Investments in Kansas City, MO. After retirement, Mark devoted many hours of work at Wayside Rest in Harrisonville, that was built by his great-great-great-great-grandfather, Robert A, Brown, and is now occupied by Carol Prettyman his great-great-great-granddaughter, and Mark's second cousin.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, two uncles, Kenneth Danforth and Clarence Danforth, Jr., his grandparents, Clarence and Thelma (Wall) Danforth, and Walter Kenneth and Loretta (Todd) Long. He is survived by his mother, Mary Kay (Long) Aldous of Bethel Island, CA; two brothers, Jimmie Scott Danforth of Adrian, MO and Randy Jay Danforth of Independence, MO, and an aunt, Betty Fay (Long) Benham of Harrisonville, MO.
