Marilyn June Davis, 91, of Garden City, Missouri, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this earth on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven. Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Freeman Cemetery in Freeman, MO.  In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations to Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Marilyn was born to Charles and Alma Gentile on May 2, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri. Marilyn grew up on a farm with a creek where she could routinely be found playing. Marilyn and her siblings were always busy finding trouble and being onery. As Marilyn grew up, she attended Grandview High School in Grandview, MO. Marilyn graduated in 1953.

Following high school, Marilyn worked at Vita Craft as a typist until she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Duane Davis, on March 12, 1954. Following marriage, Marilyn became a homemaker. To this union, Duane and Marilyn welcomed their son, Jimmy Duane, on April 30, 1955. The family was completed by the birth of their daughter, Doris (Sis) June, on May 30, 1956. They were married for 65 years before Duane preceded Marilyn in meeting the Lord.

Marilyn was an adventurous soul who loved the outdoors. She could often be found with a fishing rod over her shoulder headed to her favorite fishing hole or scanning the ground for arrowheads and fossils as she walked the woods and beaches, chasing after her kids and/or grandkids and piddling in the garden. Marilyn had a wonderful sense of humor, often telling her husband in regard to gardening, “I am the little red hen, and you are the barn yard friend. I grew it, I harvested it, I cooked it, and you ate it!”

Marilyn was filled with creative energy, applying her talents to playing the guitar and her passion for art. A self-taught artist, her beautiful paintings in various mediums; oils, watercolor and acrylics; have won several awards and are cherished by family and friends. Marilyn loved gifting her paintings and sharing her joy.

Though Marilyn did not attend a local gathering in her later years, her love for the Lord was evident and sure.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Carl Duane Davis; her brother, Philip Gentile; sister, Charlene Bourland; infant grandson, Trent Davis; niece, Joan Gentile Fields; and nephew, Eric Davis. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Judith A. Freeland; son, Jimmy Duane Davis (Kayla); daughter, Doris Clutter (Duce); grandsons: Travis (Mara), Josh, Brandon (Malinda), Jason (Andrea), Matthew (Krista), Quinton, and Danny (Cindy); granddaughters: Briley, Jessica (Aaron), Janell, Mallory, and Micah; 25 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.
