Marie Williams Cox, 94, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Cass Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Atkinson Funeral Home.
Marie was born May 1, 1921 in Prattsville, Arkansas, the daughter of Herbert and Loretta (Threet) Williams. They lived in Kingsland, Arkansas and she attended the Kingsland Schools. Marie married Clell Vernon Cox on March 31, 1940 in Fordyce, Arkansas. They lived in Arkansas until 1950 when they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. They had resided in Cass County since 1971.
Marie worked for The Family Center in Harrisonville as a cashier for 27 years. She was also a loving mother, homemaker, and gardener. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Clell, her brother, Air Force Sergeant James H. Williams in 1944, her sisters, Ruby Williams and Veda McKinney, an infant daughter, Loretta Mae, a grandson, James Fletcher Cox and a granddaughter, Stacy Cox. She is survived by her children, Linda Zans Hoover, Harrisonville, Missouri, James and Terry Cox, Peculiar, Missouri, David Cox and Cindy Stoner, Harrisonville, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
