Maria N. Hayes, 78, Harrisonville, MO, died Monday, December 17, 2007 at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville. Funeral services 10:30 AM Thursday, December 20 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville. Visitation 9:30-10:30 AM Thursday at the church. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to the church.

Maria was born December 22, 1928 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the daughter of Luis B. and Gregoria (Rivera) Martinez. Maria grew up in New Mexico. She moved to Harrisonville in 1952. Maria served as a Corporal in the Women's Army Corp during the Korean Conflict. She married Vencil Eugene Hayes on June 27, 1952 while in Germany.

Maria worked as a secretary for several offices in Harrisonville, including the Cass County Hospital, Marvin Burris Ford, Anaconda Wire and Cable and Kathleen Shine Law Office. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vince on June 8, 1995 and one brother, Tomas Martinez. She is survived by one daughter, Camille Bearly and her husband, Robert, Overland Park, KS; two brothers, Alfred Martinez and Trinidad Martinez, both of Albuquerque, NM; four sisters, Carmel Lucero, Albuquerque, NM, Angelia Smith, Santa Fe, NM, Joann Macias, Albuquerque, NM and Georgia Chacon, Albuquerque, NM; two granddaughters, Angela Bird and Andrea Davis and their husbands, all of Gardner, KS and five great-grandchildren.
