Margaret Ann Porter was born in July 1931 and passed from this life to her eternal home in Glory on August 25, 2026. She was raised by her mother, Ruth Horton, and uncle, Hugh Horton, on a small dairy farm in eastern Greene County. She was a graduate of Strafford High School.

Margaret made a profession of faith at North Star Baptist Church and was baptized in the James River at a young age. She was married to Allen Porter for 50 years, until his passing in 2001. Together in 1975, they founded and operated Porter Automotive in Harrisonville, MO. It was their life work, and they loved serving the community through their business. She returned to Springfield in 2015 to be close to family.

Margaret is survived by a cousin, Bill Butts (wife, Debbie), of Springfield, who together helped fulfill her greatest wish to stay in her own home at such an advanced age, until just three weeks before her passing.

John and Nikki Eddy, of Cedar Rapids, IA, were special family for many years. Wonderful friends in recent years included Judy Schleis, Bettye Watkins, and Beverly Thornburg. She also had a special bond with caregiver, Kathy Franks, from Seniors Helping Seniors. Longtime friends included Jim Wilkerson, Jerry Tarwater, Norma and Matt Kastner, Fran Kistler, Joyce Armintrout, Linda Compton, George Morse, Betty Hicks, and Norman Harp.

The loving and compassionate care by Sunterra Springs Skilled Nursing, Jacob’s Ladder, and Terrace Hospice were wonderful and greatly appreciated.
