Obituary

Lois Carole (Schmidli) Raynes, 90, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. A memorial service was held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Lois Carole was born on April 19, 1935 in St. Clair County, MO, to Will and Cora (Evans) Schmidli. She was the last of 7 children to be born. She enjoyed her childhood and especially her Shetland pony, Pal, and attending country schools with her sister, Mildred, as her teacher for six years of grade school. Her sisters, Mildred and Edyth, were always a joy in her life. She attended Lowry City High School and made new friends there. This was a fun experience for her.

After high school, she went to work in Kansas City and then to Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, where she met Robert Raynes, which led to a lasting courtship. They were married in Odessa, MO, in 1957, and to this union they had four children: Paul, Karen, Ronald, and Lisa. They lived in Kansas City and she worked for various companies. They moved to Harrisonville in 1971 and did some farming on 20 acres while the kids went to school and other various activities.

Carole worked for the zoning office in Harrisonville for several years before going to work in Kansas City for Bendix/Allied Corporation and was there for 15 years before retiring in 1997. She made lasting friendships while there. She was a member of the Harrisonville Christian Church and Pleasant Valley Homemakers Extension Club. The "club" was an important part of her life.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, in 2014; her daughter, Karen Lynn, in 1964; her brothers: Bill, Ted, Charles, and Maurice; her sisters, Mildred and Edyth; her beloved dog, Tiny, and a special niece, Margie Retterath. She is survived by her children: Paul Raynes of Raymore, MO; Ron Raynes of Harrisonville, MO; and Lisa Raynes of Kansas City, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
