Lloyal Dean Davenport (L. D., Dean), 89, Drexel, MO, died Friday, May 2, 2008 at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services 10:00 AM Monday, May 5, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Freeman, MO. Visitation 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, May 4 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
Mr. Davenport was born on a farm near West Line, MO on January 23, 1919 to Oliver Bertis (O. B., Bert) and Nellie Estelle (Duncan) Davenport. He was a member of the Freeman Baptist Church for almost 80 years. He was also a Board member of the Cass County Farm Bureau. He served on the Cass County Zoning Board for several years. Mr. Davenport was a farmer all of his life. He loved the land and understood that he was its caretaker. He had a sharp mind and a keen eye. He did not talk a lot but was known to be honest and straight forward in his approach to people and life.
Mr. Davenport married Anna Lee Myers, daughter of Chester E. and Vernie (Phillips) Myers on May 20, 1941. Mr. & Mrs. Davenport have lived on their farm, north of Drexel, MO, since their marriage.
Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lee Davenport, his parents and a sister, Dortha Crook. He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee of the home, two sons, David D. Davenport, DVM, (Tressa) Peculiar, MO and Colonel (Ret) Paul E. (Gene) Davenport, (Geni) Weston, MO. Mr. Davenport is also survived by three granddaughters, Leigh Ann Westerlund (Erik) and her children, Beck and Madia, Tamra J. (T.J.) Scheiblhofer (Chris) and her children, Nathan and Claire and Tracy R. Beattie (Steve) and her twin daughters, Amelia and Alaina.
