Lillian Lydia Lakin, 86, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away quietly on Monday, July 20, 2026, after 14 years of decline in Harrisonville, MO. Her final years in hospice at Crown Care were comfortable and peaceful. A Memorial service was held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church. Memorial Donations may be made to the Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Overland Park, Kansas, or to KU Medical Center Alzheimer’s Disease Center.

Born in Marshall, MO, on June 16, 1940, to Laurence Eckhoff and Lillian (Retherford) Eckhoff, she had eight siblings. Raised in Missouri and Kansas, she was known to say she never got to finish a school year in the same school. She married James W. Lakin on April 7, 1964, who adopted her two children from her first marriage, Janel Renee and Paul Anthony “Tony”. Her youngest child, Sheila Kathleen Noell, passed away in 2024.

Lydia worked at Sam Brown Auto Parts and McGrew Color Graphics as a bookkeeper and office manager. She was a partner with her husband at their doughnut shops, cattle business, travel guide business, and real estate business, making life-long friends at each place. She loved baseball and football, and was a season ticket holder of the KC Royals and KC Chiefs. She loved puzzles and reading, at one time she had a personal library of over five hundred books. She loved to travel in their RV and see National Parks and other attractions. Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2012, Lydia’s husband was her full-time caregiver until 2021, when she needed more intense care.

Lydia was preceded in death by her brothers: Larry and James (Donna); and her sister, Alma Trotter. She is survived by siblings: Carl, Wayne (Sheila), David (Connie), Linda (Steve) Dick, and Gary (Teri); her husband, James, of Harrisonville, MO; daughter, Janel (Craig) Doll, of Raymore, MO; son, Paul Anthony “Tony”, of Grandview, MO; daughter-in-law, Linda, of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren: Jason (Jamie) Doll, Pleasant Hill, MO; Melissa (Casey Howell) Whitworth, Garden City, MO; Amy (Brandon) Cox, Garden City, MO; Garrett (Nicole) Noell, Harrisonville, MO; George Noell, Lee’s Summit, MO; and Destiny Lakin, Kansas City, MO; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
