Leroy Johnson, 57, Kansas City, MO, formerly of Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his home. A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at BB's Lawnside BBQ, 1205 E. 85th, Kansas City, MO.
Leroy was born May 30, 1954 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Harold Leroy and Avis Evelyn (Barnard) Johnson. He was a 1972 graduate of Harrisonville High School and received a BA degree in Political Science from SMS in Springfield, MO. Leroy went to work for Budget Tapes & Records in Kansas City in 1976 and then became the buyer for Penny Lane Records in Kansas City. He was the record critic for Pitch magazine under his trade name LeRoi.
Penny Lane later became Streetside Records and Leroy became the West District Manager of Streetside Records and then the East and West District Manager covering everything from Ohio to Kansas. He retired in 1996 as the buyer and manager of Streetside Records in Westport. He was very active in the music industry.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
