Obituary

Leonard Jack Lukenbill, 81, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.

Jack was born August 1, 1934 in Shell City, Vernon County, Missouri, a son of Frederick and Mary (Hicks) Lukenbill. Jack was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on the USS Higbee. He was united in marriage to Alice Carriger in 1954, in Tijuana, Mexico. They moved to Cass County in 1962 and had lived in Archie and Harrisonville.

Jack worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Belton, Missouri, the Downtown Post Office, and in the Philatelic Stamp Division in the caves. He was an umpire and referee, both semi-pro and amateur, and worked many area high school and junior high sporting events. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the American Postal Workers Union, and the Harrisonville United Methodist Church.

Jack is survived by his wife, Alice, of the home; four sons, Dennis Lukenbill, Harrisonville, Len Lukenbill, Garden City, MO, Jeffery Lukenbill and Mark Lukenbill Sr., both of Harrisonville; two daughters, Patricia Francy, Lee's Summit, MO and Jacqueline Harris, Archie, MO; one brother, Frank Lukenbill, Gladstone, MO; three sisters, Marjorie Hammondtree, Appleton City, MO, Sharon Lukenbill, Oklahoma City, OK, and Linda Milster Fanning, Nevada, MO; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
