LEON WARREN EIFFERT, 82, Harrisonville, MO, died Monday, July 28, 2008 in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Friends may call from 6:00-7:30 PM Thursday, July 31 at the chapel. Burial will be at 4:30 PM Friday at La Plata City Cemetery, La Plata, MO. Leon was born March 21, 1926 on a farm in Schuyler County, MO, the son of George Lee and Pearle (Snowbarger) Eiffert. He graduated from Downing High School in 1943. He then worked for two years in Ottumwa, IA, after which he served for two years during WWII in the U. S. Army 34th Infantry Division and then the 88th Division, Army of Occupation, in Northern Italy. After the war, he returned to La Plata, Missouri, married his wife, Beverly Joyce Waters, and in 1948 came to Harrisonville to spend the rest of his life.
While he was employed by Service Pipeline (AMOCO) in Freeman, Missouri, he decided to take night classes in Communications and Electricity to become a Master Technician which he worked as for a total of 42 years in Freeman, MO.
One of Leon's many fond memories and achievements was coaching young athletes in Little League Baseball in Harrisonville from 1965 to 1975. He also enjoyed fishing at their Lake of the Ozarks cabin, which he and Beverly have been building themselves for the past 40 years.
Leon was baptized in his early life in the Lutheran Church. He attended the Presbyterian Church in La Plata, MO and the Methodist Church in Harrisonville. He has been a member of the American Legion for 62 years and a member of the VFW since 1954.
Leon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly, of the home; his three children, Debbie (Keith) Smith, Gladstone, MO, Lee Anne (Larry) Yach, Carrollton, TX and Kenton (Jackie) Eiffert, Bakersfield, CA; his grandchildren, Aaron Kelly (Valerie) Smith, Colorado Springs, CO, Lauren and Lindsey Yach, Los Angeles, CA and Kristen, Beth and Brett Eiffert, Bakersfield, CA; his great-grandchildren, Alanna and Rylee Smith, Colorado Springs. He is also survived by two brothers, Howard (Lucy) Eiffert, Columbia, MO and Rex Eiffert, Ukiah, CA and a sister, Emogene Grindstaff, Quincy, IL and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will also miss him.
