Leo W. Thomas, 80, Climax Springs, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Burial, with military honors, was in the Belton Cemetery, Belton, MO. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
Leo was born December 22, 1942 in McCune, Kansas, a son of Perry Robert and Elda Audrey (Lane) Thomas. The family lived in the Belton/ Peculiar area and Leo attended grade school at Pleasant Valley Rural School #121 in Belton, and was a 1960 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School.
Leo joined the Air Force in 1964, graduated at the top of his class, and was a Staff Sergeant and Fire Protection Specialist at the time of his discharge in 1970. He had lived in the Harrisonville area most of his life before moving to Climax Springs in 2017. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Tarwater, February 21, 1981 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Harrisonville.
Leo always was involved with cars and trucks, owned and drove a semi-truck, worked on trucks and owned Thomas Truck Repair before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons, in 1973; and his brother, Perry, in 1995. Leo is survived by his wife, Rebecca Thomas, of Climax Springs, MO; his son, Paul Thomas, Orlando, FL; his daughter, Kathleen Young, and husband Karl, Belton, MO; two brothers: Ronald Thomas, Drexel, Mo; and Donald Thomas, Oak Grove, MO; and two grandchildren, Kaden and Chloe Young, Belton, MO.
