LaVerna McAnally Winchel, 87, Harrisonville, MO, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville. Funeral services were held Friday, December 8 at the First Baptist Church, Cleveland, MO, officiated by Rev. Henry Green. Casket bearers were Douglas Courtney, Rodney Courtney, Michael Powers, John Denham, Jaime Faulk and John Baumgard. Burial was in Cleveland, MO Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the church building fund.
LaVerna was born February 19, 1919 in rural Freeman, MO, the daughter of John B. and Hattie May (Clark) Rodgers. She was raised in Peculiar, MO and graduated in 1937 from Peculiar High School. On July 4, 1939, LaVerna was united in marriage to Cecil V. McAnally. Cecil died January 20, 1984 in Cleveland, where they had lived for more than 30 years. LaVerna married Ernest E. Winchel on September 29, 1991.
LaVerna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, MO and had attended the Cleveland First Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and the Harrisonville Senior Citizens.
Preceding LaVerna in death were her parents and her husband, Cecil, her five brothers, Loren, Lester, Luther, Lawrence and Lewis and one sister who died in infancy. LaVerna is survived by her husband, Ernest E. Winchel, of the home; three daughters, Carol Henderson, Windsor, MO, Joyce Martin, Beaver Falls, PA and Cathy Baumgard and her husband, John, Enon Valley, PA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
