Larry Lee Voelker, 66 of Raymore, MO, died Thursday, November 24, 2009 at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. (Cremation).
Larry was born June 9, 1943 in Atchison, KS to Raymond G. and Edna P. (Bonnell) Voelker. He attended grade school at White Clay Elementary in Atchison County, KS, and Lancaster, KS, Effingham, KS and Dixon, KS. He attended junior high and some of his high school in Dixon, MO. He graduated high school in May 1961 from American Furth High in Furth, Germany. He joined the United States Air Force in January 1962. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and went to electronic school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. He worked as an electronic technician on C130 transport planes. He was a veteran of the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. He retired from active service in the Air Force in September of 1965 and retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1993 as a tech sergeant. He worked for Beechcraft in Wichita, KS from 1965-1966. In 1966 Larry went to work for the Federal Civil Service working at Richards Gebaur AFB in Kansas City, MO with the 442nd Fighter Wing as an electronic technician on C130 transport planes. He was then reassigned as an electronic technician for the A10 attack bomber in the 1980's.
Larry's hobbies included flying private planes and training people how to fly. He belonged to the Kansas City Flying Club of Olathe, KS since 1970.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Raymond in 1980. He is survived by his mother, Edna Voelker of Leonard, TX; two brothers, Gary Voelker of Garland, TX and Terry Voelker of Leonard, TX; one sister, Jeanette V. Holuk of Montesano, WA; and two nieces Valerie V. Deviller of Plumas Lake, CA and Pamela James of Richardson, TX.
