Larry Joe Burton, 78, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at St. Luke's East  in Lee's Summit, MO. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Interment  at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. Contributions may be made to Harrisonville VFW Post #4409.

Larry was born November 4, 1947, in Sikeston, MO, a son of Ira Lee and Ruby (Nichols) Burton. He spent his early years in Vanduser, MO, and was a 1965 graduate of Scott County Central High School. Larry was a Navy veteran and moved to Harrisonville, MO, after his discharge to begin his career as a carpenter. He met the love of his life, Judy Stewart, in Harrisonville and they were united in marriage on December 30, 1971, at the Garden City Baptist Church in Garden City, MO.

Larry was a proud union carpenter and was a member and past President of Carpenter's Local #777 in Harrisonville for 54 years and he served as the Delegate and Business Representative for The Carpenter's District Council of Kansas City from 1986 to 2002. Larry enjoyed fishing and hunting and playing cards, especially Pinochle. Larry was a proud Papa and dearly loved his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Judy Burton, Freeman, MO; son, Daniel Burton, Harrisonville, MO; his daughter, Melanie Schwartzkopf, and husband, Mickey, Edwardsville, Kansas; a brother, Dale Burton, Bell City, MO; two sisters: Shirley Richardson, Sikeston, MO; and Barbara Anglin, Glasgow, Kentucky; and two granddaughters, Jocelyn and Sophie Schwartzkopf, Edwardsville, KS; and nieces and nephews.
