Larry was born on January 8, 1945 to Raymond "Red" L. and Fern M. (Mitchell) Hampton at the family farm on Holmes Road southwest of Belton. Larry's young life was spent at the farm and his elementary education was at Pleasant Valley School #121, a one-room country school. He graduated from Ray-Pec High School in 1962. After graduation, he spent many years as a postal carrier and retired from the US Postal Service.
Larry was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Peculiar, MO. He was married to the late Deanna Davis and also the late Mary Hunter. Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed many sporting activities including quail and pheasant hunting with his Dad, brother, and special cousin, Al Storms. He was usually first to find wild mushrooms and was among the most successful. He also enjoyed incubating quail and pheasant eggs, releasing the birds on various farms.
Larry enjoyed his close friendship with Duane Passeau. He considered him a blood brother at heart. One of their more exciting adventures was their trip to the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. For many years, Larry enjoyed evenings playing poker with his card playing buddies. He also hosted a Labor Day picnic for family and friends for many years. He'll be remembered for driving an old Centennial Chevy white truck for many, many years until it literally rusted out. What a guy! We'll miss you, Larry!
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Hampton. He is survived by his children: Cindy Hampton, Julie White, and Bruce Hampton; three grandchildren: Michael White and Maddox and Maxwell Hampton; and three sisters: Reita Coots, Tressa Sargent, and Janice Fogle.
