Obituary

Larry Eugene Ford, 61, Archie, MO, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a long 6 year lung cancer fight. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28th at the chapel. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand River Baptist Church in Freeman. Anyone with a classic car is invited to bring your car and join the funeral procession to the cemetery.

Larry was born August 30, 1950 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Eugene S. and Norma (Ferguson) Ford. He attended Hickory Grove rural school through 8th grade and was a 1968 graduate of Harrisonville High School. As a child, he was a 4-H member of Freeman 4-H Club learning skills such as electricity and building structures. He married Marcia Lynn on November 8, 1969 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, MO. He was a lifelong resident of Cass County.

Larry established Larry Ford Construction Company in 1978 building many homes in Harrisonville and the Kansas City Metro area until his retirement in 2009. His last project was remodeling the Grand River Baptist Church in Freeman for which he was a member of the church for over 50 years. Larry had a God given gift of loving all people and life. He didn't know a stranger and everyone loved being around Larry for he had a way of making you laugh and forgetting any troubles you might have had. Larry was always ready for party and a good time with his dear friends.

He loved his doctors and nurses at the Cancer Treatment Center of America so much that he and Marcia would consider the Tulsa doctor visits as going on vacation. His doctors would describe Larry as the "surprise patient" for he had recovered so many times from near death illnesses because his mindset was so positive and didn't want to disappoint his doctors and nurses.

Larry was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Marcia, of the home; one son, Eric Ford, Archie, MO; one daughter, Stacey Dahlman, Harrisonville, MO; his mother, Norma Ford, Archie, MO; two brothers, Tim Ford and Jeff Ford, both of Harrisonville, MO; one sister, Saundra Duncan, Freeman, MO; close cousin, Robert Allen Ford, Harrisonville, MO and four grandchildren, Alex Ford, Austin Ford, Andrea Ford and Mason Davis.
