Obituary

Korrie Shanon Chaney, 41, Prairie Village, Kansas, formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:30-12:00.

Korrie was born on September 29, 1972 in Harrisonville, Mo. to Lennie and Alma (Payne) Chaney. The day was beautiful and warm. He was welcomed home by everyone but his older sister Kellie. He survived his first months despite her attempts to take him out. The siblings later partnered up to keep their baby brother Tate from trouble.

Korrie started his education at East Lynne Elementary where he met his first best friends. The family moved to Bristow, Oklahoma when he was 9 years old. His friends will attest to his corruption by the Okies he met there. He would later bring his outlaw skills to Harrisonville High School where he graduated in 1991. He attended Central Missouri State where he took business classes. He would use this knowledge and everything his dad taught him to run his own General Contracting Business in Kansas City.

His running days slowed when he met the love of his life, Sarah Wernex, in 1993. She became the Tennille to his Captain, the Lucy to his Desi, and the Bonnie to his Clyde. His greatest accomplishment came on June 23, 2001, when he convinced Sarah to marry him. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding with all of their family and friends in attendance.

Korrie's tough exterior crumbled when the second love of his life was born on May 29, 2003. Piper McKinnis, with her beautiful brown eyes, wrapped him around her finger the minute she was born. He became a big mush when another brown eyed girl was born on August 9, 2006. Zoe Dow, the third love of his life, ruined him.

Korrie always knew his life would be short so he lived it the way he wanted. He was a rebel, a fighter, and was loved by so many. He will always be remembered for his caring and gentle manner. He left too soon.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah, two daughters, Piper and Zoe, his parents, Lennie Chaney and Alma Chaney, his grandmother, Jean Payne, his siblings, Kellie Robertson and Tate Chaney, his nieces, Taylor, Brooke, Payton and Aubrey, his nephew, Harbor, and many family and friends.

An education fund has been established for his young daughters. Donations can be made out to Kellie Robertson c/o Piper and Zoe Chaney and mailed to Pony Express Bank 215 N State Route 291 Liberty, MO 64068-1027.
