Obituary
Kathryn Mae Collings, 92, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Abiding Love Baptist Church, 302 East Pearl, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
Kathryn was born July 22, 1917 in Raytown, MO, the daughter of Carl and Frankie F. (Wells) Horn at her grandfather's (Robert Wells) farm. When Kathryn was a small child, her mother married George Hanson. She had many fond memories of her mother and stepfather while she was growing up.
Kathryn married Raymond Floyd Collings on June 19, 1937 in Olathe, KS. They lived in Raytown and Raymore before moving to Harrisonville in 1955. While Kathryn and Raymond were raising their three sons, Kathryn worked for a time at her aunt's drug store in Lee's Summit and at Crest Food Center in Hickman Mills. After moving to Harrisonville, she worked at Citizens National Bank and later helped her husband on the farm. They farmed and raised Angus cattle and had a seed and cattle feed store on the farm.
While her children were in 4-H Clubs, Kathryn was an active leader in 4-H. In later years, she and Raymond enjoyed many trips together and had spent several winters in Arizona and Texas. Kathryn was a member of Abiding Love Baptist Church. She was a 65-year member of Extension Clubs and at present was a member of Glorified Homemakers Club. Kathryn enjoyed sewing and playing the organ. She loved to play cards with her friends. She always enjoyed having the family Christmas dinner which she had up until 2009.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond on July 29, 2003. She is survived by three sons, Gary Collings and his wife, Sandra, John Collings and his wife, Ruth Ann and Robert Collings and his wife, Jackie, all of Harrisonville, MO; five grandchildren, Mike Collings and his wife, Tracy, Tricia Morrow and her husband, Keith, John Collings and his wife, Heidi, Steven Collings and Alicia Zeiler and her husband, Brian; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Morrow, Katie and Macie Collings, Joshua and Jacob Collings and Seth Fisher and a host of friends. She will surely be missed by all who knew her.
