Obituary

Katherine Louise McClain, 89, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Ararat Shrine Transportation Fund.

Kay was born November 26, 1924, on the family farm south of Harrisonville, Missouri, the only child of Charles Martin and Lillie May (Fichter) Hochmuth. She attended Union Hall Rural School #56 from 1930- 1938, was a 1942 graduate of Harrisonville High School, and then attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri.

She was a graduate of Huff's Business College and Fairchild's School of Cosmetology, then worked as a beautician at the Marie Earl Salon on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Kay and Jack Richard McClain were married January 18, 1948 at the First Christian Church in Harrisonville. She was a 50-year member of the Bayard Chapter #179 Order of Eastern Star in Harrisonville, and was a member and past president of Delvers Federated Women's Club in Harrisonville. Known as "Queen Bee" to all, Kay was an accomplished seamstress, a consummate hostess and cook, and a flower gardening enthusiast.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack on November 28, 2001, just before they would celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary. She is survived by one son, Charles McClain and his wife, Diane, Crofton, Maryland; two daughters, Carol Hocker and her husband, Larry, Lee's Summit, Missouri and Janice McClain, Harrisonville, Missouri; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
