Obituary

Joseph Harry Sterling, 88, Peculiar, MO, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at his home. Graveside services 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, MO. Visitation 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, MO. Contributions to Heartland Hospice, 1001 East 101st Terrace, Suite 180, Kansas City, MO 64131.

Joseph was born September 5, 1919 in Yates Center, KS, the son of Harry Joseph and Laura Edith (Statan) Sterling. He married Bernice A. Sanders on October 26, 1940 in El Dorado Springs, KS. Joseph was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran.

Joseph owned and operated a mirror restoration company and a backhoe business before retiring in 1998. He had previously worked for Carrol Day Glass as a glazer. Joseph was a member of the VFW in Peculiar, MO and was also a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Peculiar. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He loved spending time with his family.

Joseph was preceded in death by parents, daughter, Jo Ann Branic and a brother, Don Sterling. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of the home; one daughter, Judy Sanderson, Peculiar, MO; two brothers, Rex Sterling and his wife, Rachel, Yates Center, KS and Max Sterling and his wife, Janice, Clovis, CA; one sister, Cleo Ralston, Lansing, KS; grandson, Daniel Wyman and granddaughter, Robyn Bennett and 5 great-grandchildren, Daily, Aleyssa, Joe, Hunter and Robert.
