John Calvin Van Meter, 81, Belton, MO, died Thursday, July 22, 2009 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO, with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO.
John was born August 27, 1927 in Freeman, MO, the son of Walter Ivan and Cora Lacrete (Kincade) Van Meter. He was a 1945 graduate of Freeman High School.
John married Dorthy Ann Sircy on April 28, 1950 in Harrisonville, MO. He was a WWII Army veteran. John worked as a welder for Columbian Steel Tank Company before retiring.
John loved gardening and especially enjoyed planting his tomatoes. He enjoyed going to the boats and watching poker and all sports on television.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorthy on January 26, 2003. He is survived by one son, John Ray "J. R." Van Meter, Belton, MO; one daughter, Roseanna Seibert, Houston, TX; one brother, Walter F. Van Meter, Kansas City, MO; one sister, Thelma M. Coble, Peculiar, MO; nieces and nephews and many friends.
