John "Jack" W. Southard, 82, Harrisonville, MO, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
Jack was born September 24, 1926 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Guy and Bernice (Harrison) Southard. He lived in Kansas City until moving to Harrisonville in 1969.
Jack was a painting contractor until his retirement. He had served as a fireman with the Kansas City Fire Department for three years. Jack was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a founding member of the Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville and was also a member and past Master of Cass Masonic Lodge #147 in Harrisonville. Jack had also coached little league baseball and was a Boy Scout leader. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Guy Southard, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marcia, of the home; three sons, John Southard and his wife, Diane, Raymore, MO, Cliff Southard and his wife, Kelly, Dallas, TX and Chris Southard, Harrisonville, MO; one daughter, Vicki Southard Pilcher and her husband, Mark, Leawood, KS; his twin brother, James Southard, Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
