John Shephard, 84, of Harrisonville, MO, died July 11, 2014 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas, with visitation at 10 a.m.

John was born December 11, 1929 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Orville Lewis and Helen (Noonan) Shephard. He attended Atchison High School and was a member of the Class of 1947. He was united in marriage to Marilyn L. Gorrell, May 10, 1952 in Atchison, Kansas. John was an Army veteran.

John worked for Wetterau Foods Wholesale Grocers for a number of years before owning his own grocery stores in Richmond, Rolla, St. James and St. Clair, Missouri. After retirement, he moved to Osage Beach to enjoy his favorite pastime, golf. He also enjoyed playing cards with many friends over the years. John then moved to Harrisonville, Missouri in 2001 to be near family.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; a son, Larry Shephard of Overland Park, Kansas; two daughters, Joan Edelbaum and husband, Alan, Shell Knob, Missouri, and Susan Lockard and husband, Mark, Harrisonville, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Shirley Gorrell of Olathe, Kansas; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his sister, Pat Wendell, Garden Plain, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Harrisonville First Christian Church.
