Obituary

John Newton Goddard, 80, Cleveland, MO, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at his home. Memorial services were held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Arthritis Foundation.

John was born June 4, 1938 in West Line, MO, the son of Ralph Perry and Vivian Maxine (Wilcox) Goddard. He was a graduate of Freeman High School. John married Barbara Jean McCoach on July 20, 1958 in Osawatomie, KS.

John worked for The Family Center Farm and Home in Paola, KS as an assistant manager before retiring. Before that, John had worked for Western Electric, retiring after 30 years.  He also had worked for Crabtree Harmon Bus Company in sales and he was an auctioneer. John was a 50-year member of the Grand River Masonic Lodge No. 276, AF&AM, in Freeman, MO. He was also a life-long member of the West Line Christian Church, member and past president of the CWA at Western Electric, a former member of the Missouri Quarter Horse Association, and past president of the Missouri Fox Hunter's Association. John had also been a 4-H leader and a little league coach.

John was preceded by his parents, one brother, Jerry Goddard, one niece, Linda Hager, and one nephew, Aaron Goddard. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; one son, Dave Goddard ( Lynn), Amsterdam, MO; one daughter, Kathy Pippenger (Rex), Salina, KS; one brother, Gene Goddard (Doris), Cleveland, MO; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Blasi (Jesse), J. R. Goddard (Brandee), Megan Klomp (Jake), Jessie McWilliams (Ben), Chase Pippenger, and Kara Goddard, and 5 great-grandchildren.
