John M. "Jack" Cotton, 79, Harrisonville, MO, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to Serenity Care Hospice, Harrisonville.
Jack was born September 30, 1937 in Denver, Colorado, the son of John Murrell and Lucille E. (Jesse) Cotton. He was a 1955 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. Jack married Judith Warren on November 6, 1955 in Camden Point, MO. He owned Cotton Construction and later Cotton Custom Design in Harrisonville until retiring.
Jack was a member of the Harrisonville Optimist Club, and a coach for the Optimist football league, and a soccer referee. He had been an assistant Chief for Central Cass Fire Protection District; was an EMT with Harrisonville Ambulance and was a part-time dispatcher for the City of Harrisonville. Jack was a member of the Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce and Antioch Southern Baptist Church.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy on January 10, 2013. He is survived by one son, Jody Cotton and wife, Diana, Harrisonville, MO; two daughters, Jacquelyn A. Forman, Jefferson City, MO, and Johnna Culpepper and husband, Dennis, Harrisonville, MO; three brothers, Ralph Cotton and wife, Jana, LaTour, MO, Ronnie Cotton and wife, Elaine, Cleveland, MO and Russell Cotton and wife, Jann, Baxter Springs, KS; 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
