Obituary

John Paul Bybee, age 81, died Sunday August 25, 2013, at John Knox Nursing Center in Lee's Summit, MO, from complications of diabetes. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri. Inurnment will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, at a later date.

John was born August 19, 1932, one of ten children, to Clarence John and Nellie Irene (Robinson) Bybee, in Schell City, Missouri. John attended a country school and graduated from Collins High School in Collins, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War.

After serving in the Navy, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Faye Blaser, on June 29, 1958, at the Adrian Methodist Church. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Carl and Lela Blaser, of Adrian, Missouri. To this union were born four children. John worked as a Book Binder for the Kansas City School District and in 1960 he became a Farmers Insurance Agent until his retirement in 2005.

John was an active member of the Independence, Missouri Lions Club, Grain Valley Masonic Lodge and the Blue Springs Shrine Club. He was also active in Boy Scouts when his children were younger. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and later in life, playing Solitaire.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Blaser) Bybee of Blue Springs, Missouri; three sons, Phillip Bybee and wife, Robin of Trabuco Canyon, California, Mark Bybee and wife, Kris of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Stephen Bybee and wife, Paula of Lee's Summit, Missouri; one daughter, Elisa (Bybee) Grevatt and husband, Doug of Norwalk, Connecticut; five sisters, Bettie Hunter and husband Joe, Stockton, Missouri, Gloria McLaughlin, Springfield, Missouri, Reva Keller and husband, Leo, Collins, Missouri, Neomia Keller and husband, Bud, Collins, Missouri, Marilyn Henderson, Bolivar, Missouri; one brother, Ken Bybee, Crane, Missouri and four grandchildren, Molly and Doug Bybee of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Alexandria and Michaela Bybee of Trabuco Canyon, California.
