Joe L. Nichols, 78, Harrisonville, Mo died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Ks. Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, 2015 at CrossPointe Baptist Church, 17324 S. State Route 291, Pleasant Hill, Mo with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Covenant Church, Kansas City, Mo in care of the family.

Joe was born February 23, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to Claude Arnold and Nellie Viola (Willis) Nichols. He was a 1955 graduate of Southeast High School in Kansas City, MO. He was a Battalion Chief (105) for the Kansas City Fire Dept. for 37 years, retiring in 1994. Joe lived in Kansas City until moving to Harrisonville in 1994. He was united in marriage to Anna Hills on September 9, 1955 in Kansas City. After her death, he was united in marriage to Alice Newman .Carter, February 6, 1998 in Browning, Mo. He was a member of the Retired Fire Fighters Association and a member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Garden City, MO.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Anna Mae, Aug. 25, 1997 and one son, Joe L. Nichols, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Alice, of the home; two sons, Jim Nichols of North Kansas City, MO and John Nichols of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Mary Ann Fredrickson of Harrisonville, MO and Kathy Wyldes of Ottumwa, IA; two step-sons, Joel Carter and Gerald Carter both of League City, TX; two brothers, Elmer Nichols of Lee's Summit, MO and Garry Nichols of Kansas City, KS; one sister, Catherine Neitch of Ft. Worth, TX; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
