JoAnn Mitchell, 83, of Cleveland, Missouri, passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2025, surrounded by her family, at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehab Center in Louisburg, Kansas. She was born September 7, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, a daughter of James B. and Anna Louise (Lutz) Chaffin. She had lived in the Cleveland area most of her life.

JoAnn was united in marriage to Richard L. Mitchell July 3, 1987 in West Line, MO, and together they enjoyed 37 memorable years together. JoAnn worked as an assistant manager at Wal-Mart in Harrisonville. She also worked at Cass Midway School until her retirement. She loved the kids that she served and was known as "grandma" to many of them. Her favorite activities included gardening, especially her flower and vegetable gardens. She was very fond of her 5 dogs, and always insisted on keeping a very clean house. She loved her family and close friends fiercely.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; a step-son, Richard Mitchell Jr.; and her beloved dog, Yahtzee. She is survived by her husband; Richard L. Mitchell, Cleveland, MO; two sons: Rob Dudley, Manhattan, KS; and Jeffery Dudley (Cyndy), Raytown, MO; her daughter, Mindy Sidwell (Clayton), Harrisonville, MO; a step-son, Kevin Mitchell, Texas; and a step-daughter, Tina Edwards, Wisconsin; one brother, James Chaffin, Cleveland, MO; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
