Joann Ruby Brown, 60, Peculiar, MO, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at her home. Services 2:00 PM Monday, May 21 at Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, MO. Visitation 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday at the chapel. Contributions-Kansas City Hospice.
Joann was born March 6, 1947 in Sacramento, CA, the daughter of Raymond J. and Loretta O. (Holt) Brown. Joann and her family moved to Missouri in 1951. She moved to Peculiar in 1961. She was a 1965 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School and had played basketball while in school. Joann worked as a candy striper during her junior and senior years in high school.
Joann married Russell Owen Brown on December 9, 1972. She had worked at Tortel in Grandview, MO. Joann was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Peculiar. She was a member and past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Peculiar Fire Department. She enjoyed fishing.
Joann was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Russ, of the home; one daughter, Diane Shireman, Peculiar, MO; her mother, Loretta O. Smith, Butler, MO; one sister, Diane L. Dahman and her husband, Richard, Clinton, MO; uncle, Merle H. Brown, Richardson, TX; two grandchildren, James R. Shireman and Tamara D. Shireman and one great-grandchild, Autumn Shireman.
