Obituary

Jo Ann (Fairbanks) Gile, 88, of Garden City, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at her daughter's home in Warsaw, MO. Graveside services were held  on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Austin Cemetery, east of Archie, MO.

Born on April 22, 1937, to Clarence and Mary (Piper) Fairbanks, Jo Ann's journey began on a farm nestled between Archie and Garden City, MO. Jo Ann attended Archie Elementary School and was a 1955 graduate of Archie High School. She was united in marriage to Ira Gene Gile on August 5, 1956. After living in New York and Illinois, they made their home in Missouri. Together, they had three daughters, and often enjoyed time on the sailboat Gene built. Jo Ann found joy in her work, joining the IRS later in life at age 50 and dedicating 24 years to her career, where she developed lasting friendships and a deep love for her chosen profession.

A woman of faith, Jo Ann accepted Christ early in life, celebrating her baptism in the Grand River. She was a proud member of the Dayton Church and a certified Daughter of the Revolution, holding Certificate #745716, a testament to her love for history and family. She was known as an avid Conversationalist, she enjoyed grooming her lawn and had a sharp eye for weeds and guarding her yard birds against squirrels. She made prize winning quilts and had treasured memories of farm life as a child, with a desire to return to the Grand River and wade in the mud like a kid. She had a passion for Candy Crush Saga, loved to drive, and was devoted to Silver Sneakers.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene, on October 20, 2009; her sisters, Carolyn and Linda; her brother, Bob; and her grandson, Casey Lowe. She is survived by her three daughters: Marsha (Dennis) Lowe, Teresa (Jeffery) Simmons, and Melissa (Tim) Robertson; four grandchildren: Samantha (Larry) DeBusk, Andrew Lowe, Stella Robertson, and Sophia Robertson; two great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Katie DeBusk; and her beloved birds and flowers that brightened her days. It is impossible to express her thankfulness to God for having been born, her good health, and sharing his wonderful world with her. Thanks be to God.
