Jimmy Walter King, age 76, of Harrisonville, MO, passed away peacefully Monday, December 17, 2007 at Saint Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21 at the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory to the First Baptist Church.
Jimmy was born on August 26, 1931 in Ermine, Kentucky to Clyde and Shylee (Combs) King. He spent his childhood in Kentucky and graduated from Whitesburg High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War, eventually retiring as a Master Sergeant. During his tenure in the U.S. Air Force he received numerous honors and awards, including one for outstanding achievement in the U. S. Air Force Reserves from the St. Louis Globe Democrat. Most of his career was spent with the 442nd Squadron at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base. He was also a retired civil service employee. He had resided in Harrisonville 50 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years and was also an active member of the First Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing and gardening. He was devoted to his family, especially to his grandson, who was his pride and joy. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile, his quiet, unassuming manner and his devotion to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Banks King, of 56 years of the home; his daughter, Karren King Crouch, her husband, Dr. Thomas Crouch, and his grandson, Tyler Crouch, of Kansas City, MO; his siblings, Billy King, of Franklin, OH and Joan Pemberton, of Louisville, TN, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack King.
